Alex Burgy

Head Coach & Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist

Unlike most coaches, I did not have a love for sport or fitness until I was older. In fact, I didn’t start taking my fitness seriously until after graduating from high school. It was then I realized I needed daily physical activity to keep me fit and feeling good. In 2013, I found a CrossFit gym in my hometown of Waunakee, and I’ve been on my fitness journey ever since.

Joining CrossFit awakened me to my passion for studying exercise science, coaching athletes, and helping others achieve their own version of physical fitness. During my years at UW-Madison, I competed in several CrossFit competitions. From there, I slowly made the switch to competing in Olympic Weightlifting. In my last year of school, my training took a backseat to my studies, as I focused on graduating. But since then, I’ve resumed regular training and have been focused on returning to competitive Weightlifting.

As a coach, I’ve had the opportunity to learn under several different disciplines, and I’ve discovered how different methodologies and approaches to training can be applied to the pursuit of becoming a stronger, faster, and healthier athlete. More specifically, I have experience coaching the Westside Barbell methodologies, CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, and high school football. My coaching experience is broad ranging and includes working with ultra-competitive CrossFitters to training adaptive athletes in the Adaptive Fitness Program at UW-Madison.

Ultimately, I believe my passion, experience, and coaching knowledge will continue to help people become fit for life. My hope is to participate in building and sustaining a culture of fitness for many years to come.
